Wim and Monse read an excerpt from “Sequoyah and His Talking Leaves,” Wim's classroom play about the brilliant Native American who invented a written form of the of the Cherokee language — a syllabary. This short video includes images of Sequoyah himself, his home, the printing office where his letters were first used for publication, and samples of his syllabary in use—among them the Lord’s Prayer and the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
